The EC – Construction MTP001 – National Certificate – Building & Civil Construction NQF, Mass training Project which was Implemented by Pioneers Skills Development Institute and funded by Department of Environmental Affairs, had a positive impact in the participants lives in more than a few ways, some in a form of the life changing skills they received, for some the stipend made them bread winners for the duration of the project.
For Sakhile Dayizana, a 34-year-old participant from Amahlathi Local Municipality, in Mlungisi, the training has changed his life in an astounding way, the skills he got complemented by the stipend, he managed to build a 5 rooms (2 Bedroom, Kitchen, Lounge and 1 Bathroom) house for himself, his wife and three kids.
Sakhile was using a portion of his stipend to buy building materials and used the skills he acquired from the training for the actual construction, this enabled him to save money he would have used for labour has he hired someone to do the work.
He started building his house when the training was still ongoing and he would work during weekends and this made it easy for him to consult with the facilitator on the issues he would encountered.
The skills he acquired has also earned him recognition from the community and he has now since started doing some construction work in the community even though he’s not yet that busy as he’s living in an underdeveloped community.
He has expressed infinite gratitude to DEA and Pioneers for affording him the opportunity, and indicated that he’s now occupying the house and enjoying its warmth with his lovely family since 31 December 2018.
The guy has lived up to his name “Sakhile” which means we have built in isiXhosa language.
The training was implemented in 5 Municipalities in the Eastern Cape Province namely;
Umzimvubu Local Municipality (Mount Ayliff), Mhlontlo Local Municipality (Qumbu),Port St Johns Local Municipality,Mnquma Local Municipality (Butterworth) and Amahlathi Local Municipality (Mlungisi)
