PIONEERS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE HAS STARTED AN INCUBATION INITIATIVE FOR THEIR FORMER STUDENTS

Pioneers Skills Development Institute has started what is called and incubation programme for their former student, this initiative encourages their former student to start their own business after completion of their training, this initiative comes after the realization that not all learners are destined to be employees but to become future employers, and this was also prompted by the job scarcity in our country. As one of the core values of the organization, Pioneers Skills Development Institute support learner during and after training and channel them to the right direction and real job market world readiness.

This initiative is meant to support its former learners to kickstart their businesses and it is done in a form of a donation and technical support to the learners, the first candidate to be taken onboard is Lebepe Tebogo a 27 years old young lady who hails from the rural village of Makgakgapatje Village outside Giyani who is a former Tiling Skills programme learner who was part of the 25 learners on the Department of Environmental affairs funded Mass Training project that was implemented by Pioneers Skills Development Institute in Gauteng (Tembisa) for a period of three months. After the completion of the three months training, Tebogo has grown passion for Tiling work and general construction which enabled her to open her own company Motlanalo Magie Pty Ltd, which specializes in; Tiling, General Construction, Painting, Maintenance, Refrigeration, Air-conditioning and Ceilings. She needed enabling tools and equipment to start with the work she has already secured under her business and that’s when she approached Pioneers Skills Development Institute to ask for donation of tile cutter, spirit level and a measuring tape, rubber mallet, tile nipper, gauging trowel. Pioneers Skills Development Institute donated these tools as it is in line with its social responsibility policy.

Tebogo could not stop expressing her gratitude towards the act of generosity by Pioneers Skills Development Institute. She indicated that she has been having this dreams and plans of having her own company but as a village girl she had a very low self-esteem due to her background and gender, but after the Tiling skills programme she was motivated when she came to learn that the Project Implementer for the project, she was doing was 100% woman owned so she started realizing that everything is possible. Her dreams are slowly becoming true as she has now secured few tiling small projects contracts in Tembisa and the surrounding areas. Motlanalo Magie Pty Ltd has created three project-based employment since its establishment.

The Managing director of Pioneers Skills Development Institute has vowed to support initiatives like Tebogo’s since they exemplify our work as an organization as this came after the completion of the programme the company was undertaking, and as part of the incubation initiatives, she further committed to support her in every possible way until her company reaches a level where it can sustain itself.

As a way of diversifying her business for infinite opportunities she has just completed a panel beating and spray painting learnership which was funded by Hollard insurance, and has now applied for accreditation with MerSETA to offer Panel beating spray painting short courses.

Tebogo has now started marketing her new business on community radio stations and social media platforms. She was interviewed on Moretele FM and she has now prepared voiceover clips which she will use for her radio adverts.
